October 23rd and 24th were exciting days to be at the National Mall in Washington, DC, where the USA Science and Engineering Festival was held. More than 850 leading science organizations presented their wares in a national effort to reinvigorate youth in science and engineering, including the Oncofertility Saturday Academy. Two members of the Oncofertility Consortium, Miranda Bernhardt and Cathryn Smeyers, manned a booth at the event and provided interactive activities for many of the more than 1 million fairgoers.

TIME Magazine has published a companion piece to its first article about Oncofertility, which highlighted the oncofertility story of Holly Trandel. The newer article discusses the personal story of Lindsay Beck, the founder of a fertility preservation advocacy group, Fertile Hope, which is now part of LIVESTRONG. Beck is also a member of the Oncofertility Consortium's Community Advisory and Action Board. Both articles are available here:

Five teachers in San Diego, California were named "Teachers of the Year" during an evening gala on Saturday, October 16th, 2010. The annual televised event honored outstanding public school teachers in San Diego County. Ericka Senegar-Mitchell, PhD was one of the honored teachers. "Dr. Ericka," as her students call her, is a biology teacher at Junipero Serra High School and runs an after school program called Science in the City.

Ireland's largest selling daily newspaper, the Irish Independent, recently reported on the fertility of cancer patients. The article published on August 23, 2010 is titled "Real Life: Don't be Afraid to ask," discusses recent fertility advances and interviews Oncofertility Consortium® members.

The 2010 Goombay Bash raised more than $570,000 for cancer research and aired a video showing how funds from the event are used to advance science. They highlighted Dr. Teresa Woodruff and her ability to leverage a donation from the H Foundation into a multi-million dollar grant from the National Institutes of Health for the Oncofertility Consortium.
