Oncofertility National Science Education Network (ONSEN)
Dr. Teresa Woodruff initiated the Oncofertility National Science Education Network (ONSEN) in an effort to help attract, prepare and retain female high school students in science majors and careers. ONSEN features educational programs in oncofertility that have been developed and implemented in at Oncofertility Consortium® sites across the United States. The first oncofertility educational program, named the Oncofertility Saturday Academy (OSA), started in Chicago in 2007.
A National Institutes of Health Interdisciplinary Research Consortium Grant supports outreach in science to high school girls at partner sites, including: Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, University of San Diego in San Diego, California, Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon, the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado is initiating a new program in 2012!
MyOncofertility.org
MyOncofertility.org is an interactive patient education resource provided by the Oncofertility Consortium. It provides information for patients and their parents and partners whose fertility may have or will be impaired by treatment for a disease. Find answers to cancer-related fertility questions, guidance for talking to physicians about fertility concerns, and assistance in finding a local fertility preservation specialist.
Did you know that cancer treatments can affect the fertility of men, women, and children? Fertility preservation methods are most effective when used before cancer treatments begin.
For information about fertility preservation or to get a referral to a fertilty preservation center near you, please call the FERTLINE! This resource is available to patients, families and health care professionals.
A major mission of the Oncofertility Consortium® and the Division of Fertility Preservation at Northwestern University is to educate - our future generation of scientists and clinicians, patients, and practicing physicians. Here you can find out more about the Oncofertility Saturday Academy, a science program designed to expose high school girls to the basic science and clinical medicine surrounding Oncofertility. Follow the link to our patient-oriented Oncofertility website, myoncofertility.org, to learn more about fertility preservation options.
