The Center for Research in Reproductive Medicine and Biology, known nationally as Centro de estudios e investigaciones en Biología y Medicina Reproductiva – BIOMER, was founded in February 2015. It is an organization that aims to promote, advise, design and execute studies / research projects in the fields of reproductive biology, reproductive medicine with a main focus on oncofertility.
BIOMER is led by Dr. Sergio Romero, PhD and Dr. Flor Sánchez, PhD, both experts on ovarian physiology and fertility preservation. One of the main tasks of BIOMER is promoting the establishment of an Oncofertility network in Peru to create awareness of the need for fertility preservation for cancer patients. The formation of this network aims to assist and encourage professionals of the different related areas to form a local multidisciplinary expert team on Oncofertility in order to provide counseling and individualized treatment to cancer patients requiring gonadotoxic treatments, who desire to preserve their fertility.
Furthermore, an important goal of the Oncofertility network is to integrate a scientific research platform to promote translational and basic research in the field of reproductive medicine focused on fertility preservation and oncofertility.
